Applications are now open for Bloomfield students who are in grades 7, 8 or 9 for the Municipal Youth Internship Program which will run from July 11 to July 23 on the Bloomfield College campus.

“Not only will students learn how our local municipal government works, but they’ll also get a little taste of what life on a college campus is like,” said Mayor Michael Venezia.

“We hope this will encourage students interested in government to further explore this as an education and career option and to better understand how their local government works.”

The internship program will take place Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., where accepted students will have college and professional workshops, spend time visiting and learning about Bloomfield’s municipal administrative offices, and participate in a field trip.

Trainees will also receive two t-shirts that they must wear for the duration of the program. Lunch will also be provided daily.

“This is an amazing opportunity for our Bloomfield students and we are thrilled to be partnering with Bloomfield College and Dr. Evans,” said Councilor Sarah Cruz.

“It’s important for our younger generation to feel included in our government, and it’s a great way for them to learn how it all works and hopefully be inspired to get more involved.”

To be eligible, the student must be a resident of Bloomfield Township, must be enrolled in grade 7, 8, or 9, and must be able to attend all ten days of the internship.

Along with the application, interested students are also asked to write a one-page personal statement about their interests, hobbies, why they want to participate, and what they hope to learn from the internship.

The application is accessible online by clicking on the following link:

Applications must be submitted by June 3 and accepted applicants will be notified on a first-come, first-served basis by June 10. There are no participation fees.
