The Town of Newmarket is hosting a Candidate Information Session on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and encourages anyone interested in learning more about running for the municipal election to attend.

Participants will learn how to file a nomination and register as a candidate, campaign requirements, and the roles and responsibilities of local elected officials. Anyone who has ever considered running for Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Regional Councillor, Council Member or School Trustee is encouraged to participate.

The presentation will be given by Lisa Lyons, Director of Legislative Services/City Clerk for the Town of Newmarket, with a special guest presentation by municipal leadership expert, John Shaffter.

Participants can join the session virtually via Zoom at the link provided at www.newmarketvotes.ca/candidateinfosession, or they can attend in person in the Council Chambers of the Newmarket Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Dr.). The session is free and no prior registration is necessary.

Prospective candidates wishing to run for the Town of Newmarket Municipal Elections in 2022 can submit their nominations until August 19, 2022 at 2 p.m. This year, during a 10-day voting period from October 15 to October 24, Newmarket voters will vote to elect a mayor, a deputy mayor and regional councillor, seven councilors each representing one of Newmarket’s seven wards and a school counselor for each of the four school boards serving Newmarket.
