Boom in demand for zero-emission commercial vehicles at the municipal level

  • The world’s leading exhibition for the management of water, wastewater, waste and raw materials (IFAT 2022) shows a strong increase in demand for BEV and FCEV commercial vehicles, especially from companies and municipal companies
  • Electric mobility specialist QUANTRON sees increased incoming orders and requests for commercial vehicles at IFAT, especially in heavy and light segments after presentation of QUANTRON’s BEV and hydrogen commercial vehicles

Quantron AG, a specialist in battery and hydrogen-powered commercial vehicles, was an exhibitor at the IFAT 2022 trade fair in Munich. IFAT is the world’s largest platform for the management of water, wastewater, waste and raw materials with approximately 120,000 visitors and 3,000 exhibitors from 155 countries. During the four days of the fair, Quantron AG received various orders for new zero-emission vehicles and numerous inquiries about the conversion of existing diesel commercial vehicles to electric drives, mainly from municipal companies.

Business demand has focused on all-electric vehicles in the heavy-duty segment, for example refuse collection vehicles such as the QUANTRON QHB 27-280 as well as light and medium transporters both equipped with the technology of hydrogen fuel cell, made with the exposed QUANTRON QLI FCEV, and battery powered as with the QUANTRON QARGO 4 EV.

“It is clearly visible that municipal companies in particular are feeling the pressure to act and now want to convert their fleets to be emission-free,” says Reiner Dellori, Chief Product Advisor at Quantron AG. “The problem for many companies is the implementation of the European Clean Vehicles Directive on the one hand, with the rising cost of running diesel-powered vehicles and the inability of established manufacturers to deliver somewhere else. On the other hand, QUANTRON is able to deliver suitable vehicles in just a few months. »

As a result, QUANTRON was able to sell further QUANTRON QARGO 4 EV electric light transporters at the fair. The vehicle was launched at the end of April 2022 and is ideally suited for sustainable transport tasks in city centers and last-mile deliveries. Fully electric dumpsters, in particular, are of great interest to local communities. With the QUANTRON QHB 27-280, based on the Mercedes-Benz Econic, QUANTRON offers a particularly pleasant vehicle for residents and vehicle personnel thanks to its emission-free and quiet operation. Featuring a 280kWh battery capacity, the garbage collection truck effortlessly handles a full shift and can simply be recharged overnight for daily use.

In addition, QUANTRON was also able to inspire customers regarding its hydrogen vehicles. The QUANTRON QLI FCEV Light Transporter, based on the Iveco Daily, was developed in close cooperation with QUANTRON partner and fuel cell expert AE Driven Solutions. The enormous interest shown by show visitors for the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle demonstrates that municipal companies are very open to this innovative energy source.

Together with its partner Ballard Power Systems, QUANTRON is working on the development of hydrogen vehicles in the heavy sector. The first vehicle of the joint hydrogen offensive will be presented at the IAA Transportation Fair in September 2022.
