Federal, Provincial and Municipal Funding Partners Invest in Water and Wastewater System Expansion in Three Rivers

THREE RIVERS, PEI, May 30, 2022 /CNW/ – Investments in key infrastructure create strong and healthy communities across Canada. From roads and buildings to water supply and wastewater treatment systems, reliable infrastructure provides communities with opportunities for growth and development today so they are better prepared to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

Today, the Honorable Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, on behalf of the Honorable Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, Infrastructure and Communities; The Honorable James Aylward, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, and His Worship Ed MacAulay, Mayor of Three Rivers, announced funding for water and wastewater infrastructure for the Town of Three Rivers.

The funding will support the City of Three Rivers’ water and sewer systems by providing approximately 80 households with efficient and convenient distribution and collection services. Residents will benefit from the newly constructed 2,500 meters of sewer line and 2,000 meters of water line by eliminating the need for individual septic tanks and well pumps. When complete, the new infrastructure will help keep residents healthy, protect local soils and waterways from contamination, and improve property values.

The government of Canada invest more $1.9 million in this project through the Green Infrastructure component of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure program. The government of Prince Edward Island invest more $1.6 millionand the Town of Three Rivers is investing more than $1.2 million.
