CHANDIGARH: Excited by its landslide victory in the recent Punjab assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is eyeing the civic elections due later this year and drawing up a plan for them, as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, held a meeting with the party at – Punjab affairs official Jarnail Singh here on Friday.

The four largest municipal corporations in the state (Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Patiala) will go to the polls in December this year. In recent assembly polls of the 14 assembly segments that fall under the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, 13 AAP deputies won, along with nine AAP deputies winning the 11 assembly seats that fall under the Amritsar Municipality, while the eight assembly seats that fall in the Patiala Municipal Corporation area were won by AAP. In Jalandhar Municipal Corporation, the party won four of the nine assembly seats.

Just before the Assembly elections, former Patiala Mayor Ajitpal Singh Kohli joined the AAP and he defeated former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh of the Patiala (Urban) seat. In addition, the incumbent mayor of Amritsar Karamjit Singh Rintu also joined the AAP ahead of the assembly polls.

Sources said that in today’s meeting between Mann and Singh, the strategy to be adopted by the party was discussed to fight against these civil elections in addition to the structure of the party at the district level and how to strengthen it. . Not only that also the urban development plan of these civic bodies is likely to be announced by the new AAP government in the state ahead of these elections. A project is being prepared by the party to implement development programs in urban areas, as promised by it.

The party handed the task to Jarnail Singh as he was instrumental in the party’s impressive performance in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections as the party won 14 wards and was the largest house party.

Jarnail Singh said Aam Aadmi party will sweep the municipal elections as in the recent assembly elections and train its mayors in the four municipalities.

A few days ago, Jarnail Singh and State Secretary General Harchand Singh Barsat held a meeting with AAP District Chairpersons, Lok Sabha Officials, District Secretaries and other officers and discussed strategies for municipal elections.
